A consultative interaction was held at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in order to obtain the views of experts and entrepreneurs from the industry and academia in the engineering fraternity in Sri Lanka. The purpose of the interaction was to obtain critical comments and suggestions during finalization of the Curriculum.
The participants included leading personalities from industrial and service sectors in the public and private institutions. Such institutions consisted of construction, environment, manufacturing, electrical and electronic, computer, biomedical, telecommunication, etc. In addition, eminent academics in engineering education drawn from the Universities, research and development institutions, technical and vocational educational (TVE), past presidents and representatives of professional institutions such as the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL), Institute of Engineering Technology (IET), Organization of Professional Associations (OBA) and Chambers of Commerce were also present on the occasion.
The University was represented by the Prof. Sampath Amaratunge (Vice Chancellor), Members of the Advisory Board, Members of the Consultative Committee who were responsible for designing the Curriculum of the Undergraduate Degree Programme in Engineering, Prof. N. R. Arthenayake (Lead Consultant) and Senior Academics in the Faculty of Engineering.
The views and observations of the participants were accommodated as applicable, with the view to produce well-rounded engineers who could contribute to the national development activities.
