Department History

The Department of Computer Engineering was established in the Faculty of Engineering in 2015. Even though this is the youngest Computer Engineering degree awarding department in Sri Lankan State Universities, we play a leading role in Computer Engineering in the higher education system in Sri Lanka. Despite the fact that we started the department with minor facilities and a few staff members, today this is an active department with a capable, young and energetic staff and high-end resources. We offer courses to undergraduates from fundamentals to complex and advanced topics in modern Computer Engineering such as Computer Hardware and Embedded System Design, Software Engineering, GPU Programming, Bioinformatics, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision and Image Processing, Robotics, Parallel Computing, Networking, Computer

Security, Cloud Computing, Database Management Systems, Data Management and High Performance Computing, Natural Language Processing, Quality Engineering, Machine Learning, Data Mining, Advanced Computer Architecture and other trending topics and research areas.

Furthermore, students have a golden opportunity to apply those areas by involving in multiple projects, researches and competitions. Computer Engineering undergraduates have countless industrial opportunities to become Computer Engineers, System Design Engineers, System Architects, Software Engineers, DevOps, Research Engineers, or continue their postgraduate studies in local and foreign institutions.
