Dr. Shyam Kularathna is a graduate from the Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. After obtaining two and half years of professional experience as an ERP consultant, he then moved to Japan where he received his master’s degree from the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, The University of Tokyo, Japan. His M.Sc. thesis was on analyzing oceanographic information as a co-benefit of ocean renewable energy projects. He received his PhD degree in the stream of Sustainability Science from the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, The University of Tokyo, Japan. His PhD dissertation was on the public acceptance and co-existence strategies of marine renewable energy projects. Dr. Shyam Kularathna has obtained professional qualifications in the field of ERP consulting and he is also a passed finalist of Charted Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), United Kingdom.

Before Joining the present university, he has worked as a researcher at the faculty of agriculture in the Tokyo University of Agriculture, focusing on the sustainability with the nexus of Agriculture, Nutrition and Health. His research interests are sustainability, renewable energy systems, agent-based modeling, application of decision-making models for human-natural systems through engineering approaches.
