Prof. Jagath Samarabandu was appointed as a visiting professor on honorary basis in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering department, USJ, from November 2021. He is also a professor of the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Western University, Canada. Prof. Jagath Samarabandu is the first international academic to join the Faculty of Engineering, USJ, on sabbatical. He will assist the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EE), USJ, to improve the academic program and conduct modules such as image processing and machine learning. He will also help the research students in those areas.
From the beginning, Prof. Ranjit Arthenayake, a former Vice-Chancellor of the Open University of Sri Lanka, guided the department of EE as the lead consultant of the Faculty of Engineering. Prof. Indra Dayawansa, Prof. Ranjith Perera, and Prof. Rohan Munasinghe also contributed to the department of EE, USJ, towards developing the curriculum to provide guidance to a successful inauguration of the department and develop the Electrical and Electronic Engineering program. Prof. J.P. Karunadasa, Prof. Manjula Fernando, Prof. S.G. Yasawardane, and Prof. Anura Wijayapala also shouldered the task of developing the curriculum and the degree program. Furthermore, Prof. Ranjith Perera was kind enough to offer his contribution towards delivering courses on Power Systems while Prof. Anura Wijayapala is contributing to deliver the course on Energy Studies. In addition, the department is actively engaged in research activities with eminent professors such as Prof. Janaka Ekanayake and Assistant Prof. Madhusanka Liyanage, who are identified to be within the top 2% scientists in the world.
