Environmental Engineering is a sub-discipline of Civil Engineering that applies science and engineering principles in broad scope that draws on a wide array of subject areas such as chemistry, ecology, sustainability, geology, hydraulics, hydrology, microbiology, economics, and mathematics. The Environmental Engineering stream allows the students to gain knowledge of environment-focused global and local sustainability issues that are coupled with engineering developments, such as climate change, water scarcity, and the negative impacts on ecosystems.
Wide range of applications in Environmental Engineering involves the treatment and distribution of drinking water, the collection, treatment and disposal of wastewater, the control of air pollution and noise pollution, municipal solid-waste management and hazardous-waste management. Students are given exposure to the environmental impact assessment process, and field experiments, mathematical
modeling, systems analysis and social survey analysis are widely used to give them the basic understanding of environmental engineering. The department is developing a well-equipped Environmental Engineering Laboratory to conduct the practical classes and research activities of the students.
Materials laboratory is primarily aimed to facilitate students to learn the properties of engineering materials. The laboratory is currently equipped with equipment for evaluating material hardness, material toughness and material tensile strength.
