Department of Civil Engineering secures three competitive research grants worth LKR 265 million

Department of Civil Engineering of University of Sri Jayewardenepura received three research grants under the competitive research grant round two of the Science and Technology Human Resource Development (STHRD) Project funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Awarding letters of the above research grants were handed over to the recipients in a ceremony held at the Ministry of Education. The honorable Minister of Education Mr. Dinesh Gunawardena,  was the chief guest of the ceremony. Professor K.Kapila C.K. Perera, Secretary, Ministry of Education, Senior Professor Sudantha Liyanage, Vice-Chancellor, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Senior Professor Chandana P. Udawatte, Vice-Chairman, University Grants Commission, representatives from the ADB, Ministry of Education and partner universities graced the ceremony.

 

Details of the research grants

Proposal Title: Fire Safety of Buildings

Grant amount: LKR 169.9 million

Department of Civil Engineering had submitted the above proposal under the leadership of Dr. K.M.C Konthesingha, Senior lecturer, Department of Civil Engineering in partnership with the Northumbria University, United Kingdom. This project will lead to the development of a fire related research center, for the first time in Sri Lanka.

Proposal Title: A University Research Collaboration on the Application of Smart Technology in Urban Farming

Grant amount: LKR 52.9 million

Department of Civil Engineering had submitted the above proposal under the leadership of Dr. (Ms) G.N. Samarasekara, Head, Department of Civil Engineering, in partnership with the University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka.

Proposal Title: An Inter-University Partnership for forming Research Group for Studies Related to International Practices on Traffic Calming

Grant amount: LKR 42.3 million

Department of Civil Engineering had submitted the above proposal under the leadership of Dr. (Ms) G.N. Samarasekara, Head, Department of Civil Engineering, in partnership with Wayaba University, Sri Lanka.
