At the Faculty of Engineering University of Sri Jayewardenepura, we aim to prepare students to make a difference in the world so that they help to build a better future. We believe the students should have a strong grounding on their technical expertise while being aware of the role and responsibilities of the professional engineer in society by exposing them to humanities, ethics, equity, public and worker safety, management and concepts of sustainable development.
While the degree awarding departments are responsible for building the technical capacity of the students, Department of Interdisciplinary Studies is supporting the degree awarding departments in building their skills in complimentary studies of the program. It is expected that a recognized program will continue to have additional academic credits to demonstrate innovation and to achieve the specific goals the particular engineering faculty may have for engineering education.
The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies offer courses in the fields of mathematics, basic sciences, humanities, management, Law and regulatory environment, engineering economics, professional ethics, and communication skills to fulfill this requirement. The department provides a great opportunity for the students to engage in multidisciplinary projects to enhance their knowledge as well as personal qualities and values.
The academic staff of the department are competent in engineering while having extra qualifications in the other areas such as mathematics, management, and humanities, providing students with a unique learning experience in the task of preparing perfect engineers that can give their maximum for nation building.
