Gold Medal

The Award of Gold Medal by the
Department of Interdisciplinary Studies

The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies has decided to recognize the students’ performance in IS courses and their efforts in real life practical application of skills developed through IS courses. The Gold medal will be awarded annually, during the general convocation of the faculty.

 

Scope

The Gold medal will be awarded to the engineering graduate who successfully completes the Bachelor of the Science of Engineering honors degree with a First Class or a Second Class (Upper Division) pass with the most outstanding performance in courses offered by the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies at the faculty of Engineering, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

 

Qualification Criteria

Preliminary Screening

Primary screening will be conducted to select eligible candidates for the gold medal. In order to be eligible to receive the Gold medal, the graduate,

  1. Must have successfully completed the Bachelor of Science of Engineering honors degree within the prescribed period of study
  2. Should have an overall grade point average of 3.3 or above
  3. Has no disciplinary action against the student
  4. Must have completed all the complementary courses offered by the IS department without repeating any course
Secondary Screening

Secondary screening will be conducted to select the best performing candidate from the eligible graduates. Those who have fulfilled the preliminary screening requirements can apply for the secondary screening with information on the following selection criteria.

  • Performance of the IS course assessments (Accounts for 60% of the final score)

  • Real-life, practical applications of skills developed through IS courses (Accounts for 40% of the final score). This will be evaluated according to the evaluation criteria given here!

 

Application and Selection Procedure

  • Graduates who have satisfied the preliminary screening requirements can apply for the secondary screening with copies of proof documents.
  • The applicant with the highest final score who has fulfilled the above qualification criteria will be selected as the awardee.
  • Selection will be conducted by a panel consisting of all the Heads of the Departments in the Faculty of Engineering and the senior staff of the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, chaired by the Head of the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies.
