Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University of Sri Jayewardenepura. At our department we prepare our graduates to work in many technology based industries such as automotive, electric power, space and aerospace, steel and materials, bioengineering, chemical and petro-chemical, building services, robotics, manufacturing and textiles.
The technologies that engineers create are evolving at a rapid rate, but are built on a set of fundamental tools of engineering. Our curriculum provides a solid background in core mechanical engineering areas and provides ample opportunity to learn about state-of-the-art technologies. Emerging areas are incorporated into the curriculum as minors. Currently the minors in Mechatronics Engineering, Building Services Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering are offered by the department. In the department of Mechanical Engineering, students learn by doing, experiencing a level of understanding that only occurs through creation. Students improve their hands-on skills by developing products while gaining experience in the engineering design process that requires creative thinking and analysis to meet specified needs.
Being part of the University with the largest student population in Sri Lanka offering degree programmes in many disciplines, students are given the opportunity to take part in multi-disciplinary projects that give creative solutions to real life challenges.
