Department of Interdisciplinary Studies conduct several collaborative research activities with other faculties of University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Under that, Department of History and Archaeology of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences engaged in such several research projects to study the evolution of ancient engineering techniques and technologies of the ancient kingdoms of Sri Lanka. The research was an extension of an identified research gap during the field visit to ancient kingdom of Anuradhapura.
As the second stage of the Anuradhapura visit, field visit to ancient kingdom of Polonnaruwa was organized. Academic and academic support staff members of the department participated the visit. Mr. Samantha from the Central Cultural Fund joined the visit as an information officer.
Following research gaps were identified during the visit for further study in undergraduate and postgraduate study programs.
• Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Applications in the fields of archaeology and tourism
• Feasibility of using ancient clay pipes in the modern plumbing work
• Concepts related to water management and conservation
• Re-modeling the ancient engineering architectural masterpieces using modern technology
• Analyze the cascade concept of ancient irrigation systems for sustainable survival and rescilience of the civilizations
