Dr. Dulini Mudunkotuwa is a graduate from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Moratuwa. She has obtained her Masters degree and  PhD degree from University of Tokyo, Japan. She is a recipient of the Aota Masaki Award for research in physical oceanography.She has worked on Green Network of Excellence Program Arctic Climate Change Research Project (GRENE) and Arctic Challenge for Sustainability Research Project (ArCS) by the Japanese Ministry of Education (MEXT) as a researcher. She has attended Polar Prediction Graduate School at Abisko Arctic Field station, organized by University of Stockholm, Sweden. She has served as a Pre-Doctoral fellow at the Institute of Industrial Sciences, University of Tokyo. She is a Chartered mechanical engineer who has served in the Young members section and Junior inventor of the year committee of IESL as the secretary. She was a former Head of the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies. Currently she serves as the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.She is the principal investigator of research grants worth 130 million on establishing an Advanced Engineering Simulation Center (E-Sim Center) and a makerspace (i-lab) for sustainable product development and commercialization. Her research interests are in Computational Fluid Dynamics, Numerical weather prediction, Data Assimilation, product development and mechanical engineering design.
